Third Space Recreation is more than play—it's a path to improve wellness and belonging. Spaces made for connection and recreation designed with intention. Our vision is to bring people together and to build stronger more resilient communities.

Our story begins in 2020, during the height of the COVID pandemic. Following an onset of social distancing, I saw first-hand that connections and communities were suffering. This was my inspiration for organizing and participating in outdoor activities; including group hikes, rock climbing trips, paddle-boarding excursions, and camping trips. All of which, helped to build meaningful connections and a resilient community. It became clear that these shared experiences, brought great joy and improved well-being myself and others who participated.

In 2023, while serving as a Vice President at a local community service organization in Annapolis, Maryland, I was introduced to Bowling Alone, political scientist Robert D. Putnam’s groundbreaking book and documentary which highlights research on the steady erosion of civic engagement and social capital in America. Putnam’s research uncovered a decline in club membership and participation as early as the 1950s, and I quickly recognized a greater need for Third Space Recreation.
With our late summer launch, Third Space Recreation is excited and committed to designing meaningful social engagement through recreation. We look forward to organizing monthly events and exploring ways to improve social connections!
